My building story
My name is Brant, I live in northern Idaho. I’m passionate about guitars - both playing and building them.
I started woodworking on small projects as a kid. Around 30, I got much more serious about it, specifically instrument making. I’m pretty much self taught, but have spent some time with folks who know what they are doing. I use a combination of traditional and modern methods to build my instruments.
At this point, building is just a hobby (or said another way, I’m a novice). It is a life-long learning process for me - if you ask me about what I’m building, I’ll always say it’s not good enough. As a guitar player, I know what a good instrument feels like in my hands, and that’s what I strive for. My preferred aesthetic is simple, clean, organic and elegant. In the end, the instrument should sound good, feel good, and look good.
My music story
I come from a musical family - my parents and siblings all perform, playing instruments and/or singing. I’ve been a singer my whole life. I dabbled in band instruments through middle school (sax, French horn, trumpet) but singing was always my strong suit. Late in high school I also started playing acoustic guitar and got completely hooked. In college I studied music for a while and got lots of experience performing as a vocalist in jazz ensembles. I was also part of a working cover band as a lead singer and rhythm guitarist. I graduated with non-music degrees but kept it as a main focus in my life – I write a fair amount of original music and recorded and released two albums in the 2000’s. I was performing solo acoustic shows quite a bit, but backed away from it as other things became a higher priority in my life, including a shift in interest toward building guitars.
I still love to play, sing, and write songs and with recent life changes, I have significantly more time to dedicate to my creative pursuits. I have quite a bit of material I’d like to record and release, so follow the socials or check here for updates. I hope you enjoy the music!
